The Beginning

The book The Hunger Games begins when Katniss explain how hard, horrible and unpleasant it is to live in district 12. She tells how difficult it is to even eat a decent meal, and she will love to run into the forest with Gale, her best friend/boyfriend, and forget about everyone else and anything else. But the only thing that stops her is her Sister and mother. She loves her sister so much that when she, Prim, was called at the selection of the Hunger Games, which is where 1 boy and 1 girl from each district go and fight for there lives, she volunteer in her place. The participants for the Hunger Games from District 12 where Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.  Later on Katniss gets to know her mentor who's name was Haimitch and her representing Effie. She gets to know him and gets to know Peter even more. They had been mentor well enough so they where know heading towards the capitol, where they have to win others love so they can get sponsorship. They win sponsorship because they pretend that Peeta and Katniss are in love, everybody loved the idea.

I really enjoy how Suzanne Collins uses imagery so we can understand and visuals the scene better. We can appreciate the use imagery when Suzanne wrote, “Prim is screaming hysterically behind me. She’s wrapped her skinny arms around me like a vice." when she explain how Prim reacted, it makes you visualize what is happening in the book and I think that’s awesome. It helps you understand that Prim was desperate because Katniss was going to The Hunger Games and that she cares a lot for her.

Another quote which I also found interesting and near the other quote was when they had announced that Prim was going to The Hunger Games. “Prim! The strangled cry comes out my throat, and my muscles begin to move again. Prim!  I don’t need to shove through the crowd. The other kids made a way immediately allowing me a straight path to the stage.” From this, we can see how the other kids might understand the pain in which Katniss is going through. Watching her sister put in a death position.
This book is one of my favorite books so far; it has suspense and lot of emotions. It also shows how people care for others and how blessed we are to have what we have. Also, it has a lot of values, like inner strength and respect. This part of the book accomplished the purpose of making the reader to want to read more. I made a connection when Katniss volunteers instead of Prim because I remember that once my sister was going to get grounded and I took the punishment instead of her.
